I've decided to do an LP of the 8-bit version of Sonic 2 (namely the Game Gear version). usbsnowcrash has already played through Sonic 1 and it can be found here.

It's a subtitled LP because:

I'm only armed with my laptop's built in microphone,

I personally enjoy them more as the LPer's voice can sometimes be annoying,

I'm sure you don't want to listen to another whiny British accent!

Storyline taken from Wikipedia:

Sonic decides to come back home after a short errand, but is shocked to see the place almost deserted. On the floor is a note written by Tails, explaining that he and the animals of the island have been kidnapped by Dr. Robotnik, and that his own safe return is exchanged for six Chaos Emeralds, to be given to six robots. There was no time to waste! Immediately Sonic once again is out to thwart the evil scientist's plan for global domination!

(The storyline above comes from the game's instruction booklet. It is contradicted by an opening cinematic where Tails runs ahead of Sonic, and Sonic witnesses his kidnapping.)

So, Dr. Robotnik kidnaps Sonic's friend, Tails, and demands that Sonic brings him 6 Chaos Emeralds if he ever wants to see him again. The game came out before its Mega Drive/Genesis counterpart and surprisingly came out in Europe before NA or even Japan. I personally didn't get the game until Christmas of that year, along with a brand new Game Gear! (Always plugged into the wall mind you)

The SMS and GG versions are almost identical, however the small screen size of the Game Gear made the game a lot more challenging (as shown in the first video). A few other unique features are that the game contains no checkpoints or shield power-ups, the game also has an alternative ending that leads to a dark conclusion!
